Yancey County Man Charged in Deadly Shooting

Yancey County -- August 31, 2024: Yancey County Sheriff's Office Press Release: The Yancey County Sheriff's Office is

investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Prices Creek Road yesterday evening. 

Grant Blankenship has been charged with voluntary manslaughter in connection with the death of Roy Elkins.

Blankenship was arrested shortly after the incident and released later that evening after posting a $100,000 secured bond.

The incident remains under investigation by the Yancey County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). Authorities are working diligently to gather more information, but no further details will be released at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
