β€£ The General Obligation Bonds Oversight Committee presented its first annual report to the Board of Commissioners.
β€£ The 2025 Schedule of Values was presented, detailing property reappraisal methods for January 2025. The Board voted to schedule a public hearing to hear community feedback regarding the Schedule of Values at its Aug. 20 regular meeting.
β€£ The Board established an Ad Hoc Short-Term Rental Committee.
𝐊𝐞𝐲 π”π©ππšπ­πžπ¬ 𝐚𝐧𝐝 πƒπžπœπ’π¬π’π¨π§π¬:
β€£ Public Health Preparedness Coordinator Nathan Greene reported no currently known avian flu cases in Buncombe County. The flu is low risk to humans, and Buncombe County Public Health officials are proactively using resources to prepare the community.
β€£ District Ranger Jen Barnhart shared a Pisgah National Forest update, discussing Tropical Storm Fred impacts and repairs and the Grandfather-Appalachian-Pisgah Restoration Project, which aims to reduce wildfire risks.
β€£ Buncombe County supports a home repair program for low- and moderate-income homeowners through a grant managed by Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity. Five sites were selected for repairs, including roof and flooring work.
β€£ The Asheville-Buncombe Continuum of Care is planning to recommend a lo- barrier shelter proposal to the Board of Commissioners in early September.
β€£ The Board approved the fiscal year 2024 annual tax settlement and adopted the order of collection for fiscal year 2025. Buncombe County’s 2024 fiscal year had a total levy of $256,998,604.39 with a 99.78% collection rate. Property tax bills will be mailed starting the week of Aug. 19.
β€£ The Board approved an additional $750,000 for ADA and egress renovations at Erwin Middle School, bringing the total budget to $3.45 million.
β€£ The Board approved moving forward with additional due diligence to further understand potential impacts of a regional EMS base and library for West Asheville.
