Asheville -- August 9, 2024: The City of Asheville believes part of being a good partner with our community

members is keeping you informed on the many projects in and around the city, so we created “The Progress Report.”

It’s an opportunity to share updates on projects as they move toward completion.

These are djust some of the highlights, but we welcome you to find out more about all our projects on the City of Asheville Projects page.

August 9

Carrier Park Playground – The playground at Carrier Park is really taking shape.  New equipment is now in place for the kiddos. The next steps will be to finish up some tree trimming reopening the area to the public.

AMI Water Meter Installation – Installation continues on the AMI water meter replacement project. As of July 30, 20,018 meters have been installed – over 30% of the total number of meters to replace.

Downtown Restroom facility – There’s been a lot of interest in what’s been happening on the corner of Rankin and College as the area is prepped to receive the downtown bathroom facility. Security cameras have been installed and are now active – bringing additional safety to the area. The concrete pad for the actual facility will be poured next week.

And what update would be complete without a mention about pickleball?

Pickleball: Rollaway nets return to Weaver Park – We know y’all love your pickleball.  Good news! Roll-away nets are back – at least for a trial run. So pull out your paddles and help us test them out at Weaver Park. APR is hosting this pilot program for the net systems through September; if they function well for play and have no negative impacts on court surfaces, the APR athletics team plans to replace previous wheel-based nets with these lighter versions.
