Yancey County Humane Society Reopens Saturday, Petco Love Invests
Burnsville -- November 07, 2024: Yancey Humane Society is set to receive a $20,000 grant investment from national nonprofit Petco Love in support of their lifesaving work for pets in Yancey County.
Petco Love is a national nonprofit leading change for pets by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since its founding in 1999, Petco Love has invested nearly $400 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. And Petco Love helps find loving homes for pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations — like ours — across North America, with more than 6.9 million pets adopted and counting.
“Our investment in Yancey Humane Society is part of more than $15M in investments recently announced by Petco Love to power local organizations across the country as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only part of our strategy to empower animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us. We launched Petco Love Lost, a free national lost and found database that uses patented photo-matching technology to simplify the search for lost pets.”
“This generous lifesaving investment from Petco Love will help further our efforts to provide services to our community, in the form of fundraising to build the first Spay/Neuter Clinic of its kind in Yancey County. The clinic will provide low-cost spay/neuter options to not only residents of Yancey County and our shelter pets, but also to surrounding county shelters,” said Renee Tomberlin, Executive Director of Yancey Humane.
Yancey Humane is a nonprofit organization that works to take in dogs and cats in-need in Yancey County. They seek to reunite lost dogs and cats with their pet parents, and to rehabilitate and rehome all adoptable pets in their care. Since 1984, Yancey Humane Society has served the pets of Yancey County and their families by conducting vaccine clinics, arranging for spay/neuter services, and consistently maintaining a 90% or better live release rate over the last 10 years.
