Haywood County -- November 13, 2024: In the aftermath of Helene, Haywood County Government is organizing two community information events to support residents affected by the storm. 

These events will provide an opportunity for community members to connect directly with representatives from
 key organizations and agencies involved in recovery efforts.

Tuesday, November 19, 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM 

Wednesday, November 20, 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM 

Location: Main Auditorium, Haywood Community College 

185 Freedlander Dr, Clyde, NC 

These sessions are designed to provide information, resources, and assistance for those navigating the impacts of the storm. Representatives from the following agencies and services will be available to answer questions and offer guidance: 

Developmental Services: Support and guidance for those affected by property damage, including permitting, inspections, and advice on rebuilding. 

Soil & Water / Agricultural Extension: Offers resources and expertise to address soil erosion, water quality issues, and agricultural recovery.  

Extension Office: Offering educational programs and resources in agriculture, family, and consumer sciences to help residents recover and rebuild after the storm. 

Hazard Mitigation Program: Assists with strategies to reduce future risks from natural disasters, including flood prevention, property assessments, and information on rebuilding safer structures. 

Mountain Projects: A local nonprofit providing services for low-income families, seniors, and others in need. They offer assistance with housing, transportation, and basic needs in response to disaster impacts. 

Health & Human Services Agency (HHSA): Includes mental health support, social services, and health programs for those experiencing emotional and physical effects from the storm. 

Chamber of Commerce: Supports local businesses with resources for economic recovery, including information on reopening, grants, and loans to help businesses recover. 

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) – Individual Assistance (IA) and
Small Business Administration (SBA): FEMA’s Individual Assistance program helps residents with temporary housing, repairs, and other immediate needs. SBA provides low-interest loans to homeowners, renters, and businesses affected by the storm. 

Baptists on Mission: A volunteer organization offering disaster relief, including cleanup assistance and home repairs.  

And More: Additional support agencies and organizations will be present to offer a range of services to meet the diverse needs of residents recovering from Hurricane Helene. 

These events provide a one-stop venue for residents to get vital information about storm recovery resources, financial aid, mental health support, legal assistance, housing, and more. Representatives will be on hand to guide residents through available services
 and recovery options, answer questions, and provide updates on ongoing recovery initiatives. 

Community members affected by Hurricane Helene are encouraged to attend and take advantage of these valuable resources. No registration is necessary, and all are welcome.  

Both events will offer the same information, please choose to attend on the date and time that is most convenient for you.
