Haywood County -- October 21, 2024: Haywood County Government News: Hurricane Helene Disaster Supplemental

Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) Haywood County Residents of Haywood County impacted by Helene may be eligible for a one-time benefit to help buy food through the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP). 

This program is available for those affected by the storm in 25 western NC counties, including Haywood, and members of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. To be eligible for D-SNAP, applicants must meet the following criteria: Have suffered losses or damages related to Hurricane Helene, such as property damage or loss of income. 

Provide proof of identity and residency (if available). Not be currently receiving benefits through Food and Nutrition Services (FNS). However, FNS recipients can get additional help without applying for D-SNAP. Some income and resource limits may apply. 

How to Apply: Eligible households can pre-register online using the ePASS tool at epass.nc.gov. After pre-registration, applicants will receive a confirmation number and must complete an interview to finalize their application. 

Call 1-844-453-1117 for interviews. Application Period: October 18 – 24, 2024 You can apply by phone or in person — By Phone: Call the D-SNAP Virtual Call Center at 1-844-453-1117 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9 a.m. – noon on weekends. In Person: 

Apply at the Haywood County Department of Social Services, located at 157 Paragon Parkway #300, Clyde, NC 28721. In-person applications will be accepted from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on weekends.
