Man Arrested for Threatening FEMA Workers Amid Helene Recovery NC

Rutherford County -- October 15, 2024: William Parsons, a 44-year-old resident of Bostic, was arrested for threatening

FEMA workers involved in recovery efforts after Hurricane Helene on Saturday.

Authorities were alerted when Parsons, armed with a rifle, reportedly made comments about harming FEMA employees working in the Lake Lure and Chimney Rock areas. Initially, rumors suggested militia involvement, but further investigation confirmed Parsons acted alone.

He was charged by the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office with "going armed to the terror of the public" and released on a $10,000 bond.

FEMA workers paused some operations due to the threat, prioritizing safety during the hurricane response.
