FEMA Opens Missing Persons Center in Asheville Following Hurricane Helene

Asheville -- October 13, 2024: On Monday, FEMA will open a Disaster Recovery Center in Asheville to assist families searching

for missing persons after the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene. The center, located at A.C. Reynolds High School, will provide much-needed services to the community, including resources for locating missing loved ones, disaster aid applications, and access to various support systems for recovery.

Why This Center Is Needed

Hurricane Helene has been one of the deadliest storms in recent history, with unprecedented flooding and destruction across North Carolina and neighboring states. Thousands of homes have been damaged or destroyed, and hundreds of people remain unaccounted for due to widespread power outages, downed communication lines, and the massive scale of the disaster.

Asheville and the surrounding regions have been hit hard, with numerous families left searching for relatives caught in the chaos.
