Elected First Vict President NC Sheriff's Association

This week, the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association hosted sheriffs, sheriffs’ personnel and their families from across North Carolina for their Annual Business Conference.

During the conference, the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association elected new Executive Committee officers. Sheriff Ricky Buchanan of McDowell County was elected as First Vice President of the Association.

Each year, the Annual Business Conference allows sheriffs and their personnel to gather for training classes, panel discussions, networking and more. Training classes and panel discussions cover a variety of law enforcement issues. This year, topics included emerging trends in the fentanyl crisis and how the influence of Mexican drug cartels are affecting our borders. Attendees also had the opportunity to hear presentations from guest speakers and attend various Association meetings during the conference.

In addition to the new First Vice President, four other sheriffs assumed new roles on the Executive Committee.

• President – Sheriff Mike Roberson, Chatham County
• Second Vice President – Sheriff Clee Atkinson, Edgecombe County
• Third Vice President – Sheriff Jeff Crisco, Stanly County
• Secretary – Sheriff Joey Lemons, Stokes County

Outgoing President Sheriff Darren Campbell, Iredell County, will transition to the role of Chairman of the Executive Committee and Sheriff Van Shaw, Cabarrus County was reelected as Treasurer.

“I am honored to take on the role of First Vice President of the Association and work with such an excellent group of my fellow sheriffs over the coming year,” remarked incoming First Vice President Sheriff Ricky Buchanan of McDowell County. Sheriff Buchanan also added, “The Association’s Annual Business Conference is always an excellent opportunity for learning and networking so we, along with our personnel, can continue to stay focused on emerging trends in law enforcement and find more ways to enhance public safety in the communities we protect.”

Founded in 1922, the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association is a statewide not-for-profit professional and educational organization of our state’s 100 sheriffs. Through their Association, sheriffs work to strengthen the law enforcement profession and services their offices provide to the people of North Carolina.
