Weaverville Man Guilty of Trafficking & Possession of Firearm by Felon
Buncombe County -- Juuly 30, 2024: Zerik Tyler Haney, 25, of Weaverville, entered a plea of guilty to two counts
of felony Trafficking in Opium/Heroin and felony Possession of Firearm by Felon on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
Judge Alan Thornburg of the Buncombe County Superior Court imposed a $750,000 sanction on Haney and ordered him to serve an active term of 90-120 months in the custody of the Division of Adult Corrections.
Haney was stopped by deputies from the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office on February 5, 2024, for speeding and neglecting to maintain his vehicle in its designated lane of travel. Upon approaching Haney's vehicle, deputies observed drug paraphernalia in clear sight within his vehicle. Subsequently, the vehicle was searched by deputies, who discovered a Glock 9mm handgun and 35 grams of fentanyl.
Haney had previously been convicted of felony narcotic offenses in Madison County.
