Wanted Armed Felon Arrested in Asheville
Asheville -- May 22, 2024: Asheville Police Department Officers arrested a wanted armed felon on gun and drug charges Sunday afternoon.
While on routine patrol on May 19, around 11:56, officers in the area of Hanover Street observed a vehicle with fictitious tags. Upon making contact with the occupants, officers identified Xavier Jerome Avery (07/05/1998), who was wanted on an open warrant for assault. While being taken into custody, Avery violently assaulted multiple officers, injuring one. During the arrest, he was found to be in possession of fentanyl, crack cocaine, and a stolen firearm. Avery was charged with the following:

Avery is currently being held at the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $81,000 (or $8,100 to a bondsman) secured bond issued by the magistrate.
