APD Arrest Two People on Drug Charges

Asheville -- May 1, 2024: Asheville Police Department Press Release: Asheville Police Department detectives and officers arrested two felons on gun and drug charges

Tuesday afternoon as they conducted proactive enforcement after receiving community complaints of illicit gun activity.

While conducting their crime prevention investigation near downtown around 4:17 p.m. on April 30 after receiving complaints about illegal firearm activity in the area. Detectives and officers attempted to make contact with Brandon Norelle Miller on Granada Street. Miller fled on foot and was apprehended shortly after. While attempting to evade officers, he discarded a backpack that was found to contain a trafficking amount of fentanyl. 

Shortly after, officers made contact with Dontae Levon Simpson in legal possession of a firearm but a trafficking amount of fentanyl.  

Seized:

-Glock 23 pistol (.40 cal)

-62.28g of fentanyl

-5.45g of crack cocaine

-531.48g of marijuana

-1 DU of Oxycodone

Arrested:

Brandon Norrelle Miller

-Trafficking in Opium or Heroin by Possession (Level III)

-Possession With Intent To Sell or Deliver Schedule II

-Felony Possess Schedule VI

-Possession With Intent To Sell or Deliver Schedule VI

-Resist Delay or Obstruct

Miller was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility on April 30 under a $75,000 (or $7,500 to a bondsman) secured bond issued by the magistrate.

Dontae Levon Simpson 

-Trafficking in Opium or Heroin by Possession (Level I)

-Simple Possess Schedule II

Simpson was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility on April 30 under a $30,000 (or $3,000 to a bondsman) secured bond issued by the magistrate.
