Haywood County --  Press Release Haywood County Sheriff's Office: We are reaching out to our Media Partners across Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina to help spread the word about a scam targeting our communities.

Multiple reports indicate that an individual is calling residents, falsely claiming to be from the Haywood County Sheriff's Office—specifically impersonating Lt. Jenkins. These callers are using intimidation tactics to pressure citizens into paying money through Venmo, purchasing gift cards, or converting funds to Bitcoin to supposedly avoid jail time for "missing jury duty."

No one from our office will ever call and demand payment for any reason.

If you receive such a call or believe you have been targeted, please contact your local law enforcement agency immediately. You can reach the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office Non-Emergency Line at 828-452-6600.

Thank you for helping us protect our community!
