
Burnsville Man Arrested for Internet and Phone Cable Theft
Yancey County -- Yancey County Sheriff's Office arrested Nathan Carl Cooper, 46, of Burnsville, in connection with an investigation into the
theft of internet and phone cable on Highway 80 South,
resulting in ongoing internet service outages. Cooper’s actions caused widespread disruptions for residents and businesses, with damages estimated to be in the range of $30,000. The theft has led to significant repair costs and major inconvenience for those affected.
Sheriff Shane Hilliard stresses the seriousness of the offense: “Tampering with communication lines not only creates costly damage, but also disrupts daily life and creates potential safety concerns. Our office is committed to holding those responsible accountable.”
Cooper has been charged with Felony Larceny, Felony Possession of Stolen Goods/Property, Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Felony
Possession of Controlled Substance on Prison/Jail Premises, Misdemeanor Drug Paraphernalia, and Felony Injuring Utility Wires/Fixtures. Cooper is being held in the Yancey County Detention Center under a $210,000 bond.
