McDowell County EMS Announcement: This week, McDowell Emergency Management/Fire Marshal’s Office, McDowell EMS Special Operations, McDowell Rescue, Marion Fire, Pleasant Gardens Fire, and North Cove Fire came together for swift water rescue training.
Swift water rescue training prepares responders to safely and effectively reach patients in fast-moving or flooded water, whether that’s a river, creek, or flooded roadway. Crews practice using ropes, boats, throw bags, and coordinated swimmer rescues in dangerous water conditions.
No matter where a patient may be, McDowell County agencies train as a team to reach them. EMS and fire crews train side by side to stay ready for anything.
As we recognize EMS Week, we want to thank all the agencies that contribute to the McDowell County EMS system. Your dedication, skill, and teamwork save lives every day.#mcdowellcountync

WNCTimes is happy to share the news: Big News from Carolina Domes! Yesterday we had the absolute honor of hosting North Carolina Governor Josh Stein and his team right here at Carolina Domes for a press conference focused on hurricane recovery and small-business support across Western NC.It was a huge moment for us—and for the entire Rutherfordton community—to be recognized as part of the state’s investment in rebuilding and resilience. Check out the video to see a glimpse of the day, and behind-the-scenes shot with the Governor and guests on the deck of our Tree Tops Dome. Thank you to everyone who has supported us through our journey—every guest, every share, every kind word. Days like this make it all worthwhile

Animal Hven of Asheville: While our 25th Anniversary Celebration is being held on the 31st today is the actual Birthday of Animal Haven. Here are some words from a memory written by Barb and Trina who made the sacrifices necessary to create this special spot.
“We opened the sanctuary on 10 beautiful acres, with one leaky old barn and a weathered farmhouse, along with a handful of animals. At the time, there were not many options in WNC for farmed animals needing help. Then, within several weeks of opening, we were involved in several difficult rescue situations involving hundreds of animals and we continue to take in animals in need. These animals have taught us so much and inspired us with their resilience, grace and beauty. Also a huge thank you to all of our volunteers and supporters. Thank you for all the hay bales stacked, feed bags hauled, and barns cleaned, for all the animals fed, transported, vetted, petted and for all of the in-kind and monetary donations.”
As a community we are so grateful to Trina and Barb for their sacrifices and vision. Happy Birthday Animal Haven and we can’t wait to celebrate with you all on the 31st! You are missed Barb but we know you will be there with us.
