Woman in Yancey County Faces Drug and Breaking & Entering Charges
Burnsville -- Officers with the Burnsville Police Department responded to a residence in town to a reported Breaking and Entering with Larceny.
Upon arrival, Officers met with the victim who
had just returned home and found that someone had broken into her house and stated that she believed that her neighborโs house had been broken into as well. The neighborโs house was subsequently checked and had been broken into but nothing was found to be missing there.
While the investigating officers were on scene taking a report from the victim, the Yancey County Sheriffโs Office was given a call of a suspicious female near the area just outside of Town limits. A deputy located the female and identified her as Amanda Laws. The officers investigating theย Breaking and Entering had checked Laws on a previous suspicious person call in a different area that was close by just a few hours prior.
BPD officers asked the responding deputy if he would check to see if Laws had any of the property on her person. Ms. Laws had multiple items stolen from the residence in a backpack that was taken from the residence as well. BPD officers then met with the Sheriffโs deputies on scene and Laws admitted to breaking into the residence along with the neighboring residence. The victim was called to the scene to identify her property and it was returned to her at the time.
Amanda Laws was arrested and taken into custody and charged with:
Felony Breaking and Entering x 2Felony Larceny x 2
Possession of Stolen Property
Simple Poss. Schedule IV
