Asheville --ย  ย Press Release City of Asheville: The City of Asheville today announced the temporary closure of the east side of Weaver Park to facilitate significant improvements as part of an ongoing community investment project to enhance the popular north Asheville park.

ย This closure is essential to ensure safety of the community and construction crews while work is underway to replace the playground and improve ballfield conditions.

Located between Murdock Ave. and Glennโ€™s Creek, the east side of Weaver Park will be closed from July 7 through early 2026. This area includes the picnic shelter, restrooms, basketball court, baseball field, walking loop (part of Glennโ€™s Creek Greenway), playground, and batting cages. This closure was coordinated around North Asheville Little Leagueโ€™s season to ensure minimal disruption.

During the closure, two portable restrooms will be available for public use in the tennis/pickleball court parking lot, located on the Merrimon Ave. side of the park. The tennis/pickleball courts will remain open during the construction and improvements.

โ€œWe're excited to see these important upgrades come to fruition at Weaver Park,โ€ said Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR) Director D. Tyrell McGirt. โ€œThis community investment will bring enhanced recreational opportunities to be enjoyed by the entire community. We appreciate the publicโ€™s understanding and patience as we work to complete these valuable improvements that will make this park an even greater asset for our city.โ€

Weaver Park Project Details and Scope

New playground and picnic tables

New walking path

Significant ballfield improvements including new dugouts, fencing, a batting cage, a bullpen, and visitor seating

These new enhancements build upon several improvements already completed at Weaver Park including new ballfield lighting; rebuilt dual-lined pickleball and tennis courts with new seating, fencing, and lighting; a resurfaced basketball court with new goals; repaved parking lots; and the improved accessibility and park circulation by rerouting of Glennโ€™s Creek Greenway and adding a new pedestrian bridge.

Please note that construction timelines can change due to factors such as weather, unexpected discoveries, supply chain issues, or labor shortages.
