Man Arrested for Assault on Employee

Asheville -- May 7, 2024: Press Release Asheville Police Department: Assault With an American Flag

APD Officers responded to a grocery store near the 25 block of Tunnel Road around 1:58 p.m. on May 5th for a report of an assault on an employee. 

The employee of the business confronted an individual who was attempting to steal a beverage. As staff escorted the individual out of the store, he grabbed an American flag set and struck the employee in the head, causing minor injuries, before fleeing the scene.

Shortly thereafter, officers located Caleb Cameron McRae (04/07/1990) in the nearby area at a fast-food restaurant and took him into custody. 

Arrested:

Caleb Cameron McRae 

-Assault With A Deadly Weapon

-2nd Degree Trespassing

-Resist, Delay, Obstruct

-Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia 

McRae was booked into Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $2,000 (or $200 to a bondsman) secured bond issued by the magistrate.
