
Shots Fired in Asheville, Suspect Arrested
Asheville -- A man who fired a gun over the weekend in a neighborhood in south Asheville was taken into custody by Asheville police. Fortunately, property damage has been reported, and no one was hurt.
Around 12:43 a.m. on July 13, Asheville POlice Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 100 block of Wellington Drive. Not long after they arrived, officers heard several gunshots coming from a car they saw go by quickly. Officers conducting a canvassing of the neighborhood discovered shot casings and damage to one occupied property. Additionally, officers found the car that had been seen earlier at a nearby house and spoke with the occupants.
“The suspect was arrested a short time later at the Walmart on Airport Road without incident. This was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.” said BCSO District 1 Captain Dustan Auldredge in a press release.
Through investigation, officers identified Luis Daniel Mares-Reyes (09/21/2003) as the person responsible and took him into custody.

Mares-Reyes was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $10,000 (or $1,000 to a bondsman) secured bond issued by a magistrate.
