
APD Arrest Suspect in ConvenienceStore Robbery
Asheville -- Officers from the Asheville Police Department arrested detained a man for brandishing a firearm and recognized him as the robber of a convenience store a few hours earlier.
Officers from the Asheville Police Department were called to a shop on Merrimon Avenue at 12:36 a.m. on June 10 after receiving a complaint of a man carrying a gun, shortly after responding to an armed robbery on Depot Street.
Police found a man who fit the suspect description when they arrived. He was apprehended without incident after being recognized as Phillip Junior Mallard (06/19/1980). Mallard was first accused of carrying a concealed gun and Going Armed to the Terror of the Public.
Mallard was identified as the culprit who had robbed a convenience shop a few hours prior as investigators continued to look into the earlier armed robbery. A felony accusation of robbery with a dangerous weapon was later brought against him.
Following the additional charges, Mallard’s bond was increased from a $2,000 secured bond to a $12,000 (or $1,200 through a bondsman) secured bond, as issued by a magistrate.
