Asheville --  Officers from the Asheville Police Department arrested detained a man for brandishing a firearm and recognized him as the robber of a convenience store a few hours earlier.

Officers from the Asheville Police Department were called to a shop on Merrimon Avenue at 12:36 a.m. on June 10 after receiving a complaint of a man carrying a gun, shortly after responding to an armed robbery on Depot Street.

Police found a man who fit the suspect description when they arrived.  He was apprehended without incident after being recognized as Phillip Junior Mallard (06/19/1980).  Mallard was first accused of carrying a concealed gun and Going Armed to the Terror of the Public.

Mallard was identified as the culprit who had robbed a convenience shop a few hours prior as investigators continued to look into the earlier armed robbery.  A felony accusation of robbery with a dangerous weapon was later brought against him.

Following the additional charges, Mallard’s bond was increased from a $2,000 secured bond to a $12,000 (or $1,200 through a bondsman) secured bond, as issued by a magistrate.

Editor's Note: A  criminal charge is an accusation, by law, a person accused of a crime is innocent until proven in a court of law.
