The ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance, Asheville Humane Society, and Brother Wolf Animal Rescue are working together to launch an initiative to aid in pet owners finding their lost pets.

A thorough lost and found pet website called LostPetsAVL.org (link provided at bottom of page) was developed to make the search and reunion process easier. This joint initiative aims to spread knowledge about the significance of microchipping dogs and offer priceless tools to prevent them from going missing.

All animals entering the Asheville Humane Society, Brother Wolf, and cats and dogs receiving spay/neuter treatments at the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance will be microchipped as part of the program, and they will all be given a "I'm microchipped" tag that is simple to affix to their collar. The tag instructs finders to go to LostPetsAVL.org if a pet disappears. To help finders track down the pet's owner, the website includes a user-friendly map and a directory of businesses and veterinary facilities in Buncombe County that provide free microchip scans. The website also offers helpful hints and direction on additional ways the neighborhood may support the happy reunion of a lost pet and their families.

The ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance (ASNA) in Asheville will host a free microchipping event on June 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to celebrate the start of this program. Pet owners are encouraged to register in advance to ensure a slot for their visit. Walk-ins will be accepted as available, and appointment times are flexible. Each pet will be given a "I'm microchipped" tag to increase the likelihood that their owners will find them if they ever go missing.

It has been shown that microchipping works to increase the possibility that lost pets will be found by their owners. To get the most of microchips, it is necessary to keep contact information up to current.

Successful reunions depend on microchipping your pet and having appropriate contact information, according to Lisa Johns, Chief of Operations at the Asheville Humane Society. "We have so much enthusiasm for this cooperative program. Together, we can make sure that more animals return home.

Pet theft becomes more likely during the summer months. Pets may go misplaced as a result of barbecues, open windows, visitors entering and leaving the property, and loud fireworks. These suggestions are suggested if you want to make sure your pets are safe during this time:

Make sure your pet is microchipped and sporting an ID tag bearing current contact information.
Provide a Safe Space During Loud Activities: Loud activities like fireworks displays are common during the summer. Pets should never be brought to fireworks displays or used as targets for explosions. Keep pets at home where they have a safe haven to hide out during such situations.
Use Leashes and Harnesses: Always wear a leash or a harness while taking your pet for walks or other trips. Even trained animals can become scared and attempt to flee. A leash adds an additional level of safety.
Be Wary of Open Windows and Doors: As the weather warms up, we tend to leave windows and doors open. However, take care when doing so because animals might try to escape covertly. To prevent unintentional escapes, teach your pet to wait at closed doors or keep away from them, and make sure your windows are locked.

Keep in mind that maintaining your pet's safety and companionship requires constant attention, correct identification, and a safe environment.
