"Log Tavern" Drive Thru in 1940's, men in short shors and boots, in Texas?

It's true! As I was having my morning coffee, checking out the latest on Twitte, I clicked "Hanging Out" that was trending.

One of the  first thing that popped up was a post with men in short shorts, boots, hanging out by an old car, with a woman behind the wheel! Yes, there was actually a drive-thru, with a woman behind the wheel of the car, with men as car hops!

Just A Car Guy blog post December 10, 2019 : A woman from Oak Cliff (a Dallas neighborhood) made a complaint that she did not want to look at girls’ legs when she stopped by her local drive-in; she wanted to look at men’s legs. Drive-in owners thought that this was a great idea, and soon the idea of the scantily-clad male carhop was born.⁣ ⁣

The photo above ran in newspapers around the country with the headline: “Adonis and Apollo of Roadside Bring Trade to Daring Stand.”⁣

"First large roadside stand Friday to bow to the demand of Dallas women and feature husky young male carhops in shorts was the Log Lodge Tavern at Lemmon and Midway where four six-footers found jobs. Above, in blue shorts, white sweatshirt and cowboy boots, Joe Wilcox serves Pauline Taylor who smiles her approval of the idea. Bound for another car is James Smith, at right."

If you're as old as I am, you can remember the commercial "Who wears short shorts?" Those commercials ran from 1970s - 1990s of course women in short shorts. When I saw this photo, that song came to mind!

This photo blew my mind! Not only the woman behind the wheel, with the man leaning on her car in short shorts and boots, but this was in Texas! What?

Hey, I didn't expect to have an odd history in lesson with coffee this morning on Twitter!

Maybe I should start my day this way more often! I love odd history!
