Asheville -- August 5, 2025  In a powerful testament to the spirit and skill of Western North Carolina’s artistic community, the Center for Craft is currently hosting the poignant and inspiring exhibition, "WNC Craft Futures: From Here."

This is a vibrant narrative of resilience, recovery, and the enduring power of creativity in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

The exhibition features the diverse work of 40 talented regional artists whose lives and livelihoods were directly impacted by the devastating storm. Since opening in April, it has offered visitors a chance to see how artists have found their way forward. From intricate ceramics to stunning textiles, innovative glasswork to finely crafted woodwork, the pieces on display represent the breadth and depth of craft in the region. But beyond the aesthetic appeal, each artwork carries a deeper story—a testament to the artists' determination to rebuild and continue their creative practices.

"WNC Craft Futures: From Here" is more than just an art show; it's a crucial initiative spearheaded by the Center for Craft's "Craft Futures Fund." Recognizing the significant challenges faced by artists after the hurricane, the fund provided each of the 40 participating artists with vital grants and access to a comprehensive six-month cohort program. This support system offered not only financial assistance—with some grants reaching up to $15,000—but also a vital peer network for mutual aid, shared learning, and emotional support during a difficult time.

The Center for Craft's inclusive definition of craft is evident in the exhibition, encompassing a wide array of materials and techniques. Visitors can expect to see exquisite examples of traditional crafts alongside innovative explorations using materials like concrete, plastic, and recycled elements. This diverse collection underscores the dynamic and evolving nature of craft in the 21st century.

There's still plenty of time to experience this powerful exhibition. By attending "WNC Craft Futures: From Here," visitors have the opportunity to directly support the recovery of these talented artists and witness the unwavering spirit of the Western North Carolina craft community. The exhibition serves as a powerful reminder of the interconnectedness of art, community, and resilience in the face of adversity.
