Asheville -- November 1, 2024: Press Release National Park Services: Additional 6 Miles Open on Blue Ridge Parkway near Mount Pisgah NC

Friday morning, November 1, 2024, the National Park Service restored access to an additional six miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway from Milepost 405.5, near NC Route 151, to Milepost 411.8, at NC Route 276.

This extends an open section of the Parkway announced earlier this week from milepost 411.8 to 421. Campgrounds, picnic areas, and other visitor services in this newly opened section of the park are closed for the 2024 season. The area north of milepost 405.5 remains closed for all uses due to a significant landslide at milepost 401.6.

Ongoing storm recovery may mean local routes adjacent to the Parkway remain impacted. Plan carefully and check the status of roads outside the park before driving to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Some roads remain closed or are damaged.

Due to the severity of the storm, conditions on park roads and trails are expected to continue to change over the next weeks and months. Visitors should anticipate changing conditions and share their travel plans with others in advance. The NPS has not yet completed trail assessments and caution is encouraged for trail users who may experience hazards resulting from landslides, downed or leaning trees, wash-outs, and other damage. For safety reasons, the park asks that people continue to respect all closures. Current known conditions and updates about the Parkway are online at www.nps.gov/blri
