WNC Nature Center Reopening in March 2025!
WNC -- Back and improved than ever is the WNC Nature Center! Officially reopened on March 17, 2025, Asheville's popular wildlife park
closed almost six months ago due to storm damage!
Prepare to reconnect with your beloved animals, discover brand-new attractions, and take in the natural splendor of Western North Carolina's native species never seen before.
Wild Comeback After the Storm
Strong floods caused by Tropical Storm Helene in September seriously compromised the infrastructure of the park, including the major bridge and access roads connecting the 42-acre Nature Center. The best news is that none of the animals suffered and every single animal enclosure stayed unharmed!
The Nature Center crew worked nonstop to provide guests with fresh and interesting enhancements while the park was under restoration. The wait is nearly over now.
New Entry Route – Plan Your Visit!
With the Gashes Creek Road bridge lost in the storm, visitors will take a newly designed route to reach the WNC Nature Center:
Start on Swannanoa River Road, turning onto Azalea Road.
Continue straight for half a mile, following the new two-way traffic pattern.
At the roundabout, take the first right and cross the one-way metal bridge (now regulated by traffic signals).
Turn left onto Gashes Creek Road, leading directly to the Nature Center’s parking area.
Make sure to drive carefully, as some areas may be narrow.
