Asheville -- July 31, 2024: Asheville Police Department Press Release:

The Asheville Police Department is investigating a second incident of gun discharge in a North Asheville neighborhood within a week. Thankfully, no one was injured in either incident, and only property damage was reported.


The first incident took place on July 25. Officers responded around 9:34 a.m. to a residence on Griffing Boulevard to investigate property damage. Upon arrival, they discovered 15 bullet holes in the front of the residence and recovered 15 shell casings.

In the second incident, officers responded to reports of gun discharge at the same residence on
Griffing Boulevard at approximately 3:09 p.m. on July 30. Upon arrival, officers made several attempts to contact the homeowners. After some time, Stephen Erik Koerschner (10/21/2005), who had open warrants for Driving While Impaired and Serious Injury by Vehicle, exited the residence without incident. He was taken into custody.

Koerschner was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $30,000 (or $3,000) secured bond issued by the magistrate.

Both incidents are under investigation. Detectives are continuing to work on leads and request that if anyone has information or home surveillance video that may have captured the incidents, please contact APD by calling (828) 252-1110.
