Man Charged in Beating Death

Asheville -- March 8, 2024: Asheville Police Department Detectives have arrested and charged a man with murder

just hours after he beat a man to death.APD Patrol Officers were dispatched to Compass Point Village around 3:23 a.m. on March 8, where they found a man already deceased. Information on the victim's identity is being withheld until detectives complete next-of-kin notifications.

The suspect, Garland William Kuykendall, Jr. was located in the nearby area and taken into custody without incident. Following an investigation, Kuykendall was charged with First Degree.

He was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Center and is being held under a NO BOND (ineligible to be released) by the magistrate.
