Body of 70-Year-Old Missing Macon County Man Found

Macon County -- October 12, 2023: Update on a story WNCTimes reported last month on a Macon County missing man.

Authorities have been searching Mark Wheeler, 70, who was seen last month on foot. Yesterday, the Macon County Sheriff's Office reported the following on social media:

"It is with a heavy heart that we share that Mr. Mark Wheeler was found deceased yesterday afternoon by the Macon County Sheriff’s Office. No foul play is suspected.
We want to thank the SBI and Cowee Fire Department for their assistance in searching for him, and the community for their interest and concern for finding Mr. Wheeler."
