APD Investigating Pedestrian Fatliey on I-40

Asheville -- September 7, 2023: A pedestrian was killed in a late Monday night vehicle-pedestrian incident on I-40 West in Asheville.

At about 10:30 p.m. on September 4, APD Patrol Officers responded to the collision on I-40 West between Sweeten Creek Rd and Hendersonville Rd. A silver vehicle driven by Raya Lynn Vess, hit Brian Montrael Pickens, 38, walking in the westbound travel lane of I-40 West. 

Pickens died at the scene. The family has been notified.

Asheville Police Department Officers are continuing to investigate.
