Asheville -- July 12, 2023: Asheville Police Department (Asheville PD) Tuesday, police were dispatched to Harris Teeter, located on the 100 block of Merrimon Avenue in response to a report a suspect armed with a knife attempted to stab the store manager.

The officers arrived to meet with the employee, who was unharmed in the event, and discovered that the suspect had fled the site before they arrived. 

Officers continued their investigation, which ultimately led them to the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Joshua R. Martin, who was hiding on Mt. Clare Avenue, a few blocks away.

Following a brief fight, Martin was taken into custody. The knife that had been used in the assault on the store employee was also located.

According to police, Martin was not injured during this incident but is currently at Mission Hospital receiving treatment, he has two outstanding warrants for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and 2nd Degree Trespassing to be served upon his release.
