APD Investigating Shootings into Apartment Buildings
Asheville -- May 9, 2023: Two separate gunshots that occurred early on Sunday morning
involving two occupied homes are being investigated by Asheville Police.
No one was hurt; at this point, just property damage has been documented.
The first incident happened on May 7 just after 3 a.m. at the 35 block of Huffman Road. Officers were
notified by a local resident that when she got up, the house had been damaged by numerous bullet holes.
Additional damage to the unit above was discovered as officers searched the area. At the time of the incident,
both apartments were occupied. According to investigators, this was likely a drive-by gunshot.
Shortly after, at 4:19 a.m., a second incident happened at an apartment building on Future Drive. The outside of
the complex and the interior of an apartment that was occupied at the time of the incident both had property damage
when the police arrived. Three shell casings were discovered when officers were searching the area. Three unidentified suspects wearing sweatshirts and jeans were seen on surveillance footage firing into a flat before running away on foot in the direction of Tunnel Road.
