Asheville -- August 15, 2024: City of Asheville: Two staples from the South's past - moonshine and motorsports - will be on 

full display throughout September. Buncombe County Special Collections is hosting DNCR  "Moonshine and Motorsports" traveling exhibit and hosts related programs all month long.

Drop by anytime Pack Memorial Library during business hours to learn more about the rich history and legacy of moonshine and motorsports in North Carolina - from the mountains to the coast.

Sept. 7 at 10:30 a.m.: Thunder Road (1958) film screening

Join BCSC at Pack Memorial Library for a screening of the 1957 film starring Robert Mitchum. Filmed largely in Asheville, this movie follows a Korean War vet who returns home to take over the family bootlegging business. Learn more here.

Sept. 14 at 2:30 p.m.: Thunder Road - On Location "Then and Now

Frank Thompson, a local film historian and author of a forthcoming book about the 1958 film Thunder Road, will share a presentation highlighting then and now views of local filming locations for the classic movie. This will be at Pack Memorial, click here for more details.

Sept. 17 at 6 p.m.: Since the Thunder Stopped - 25-year anniversary of the final race at Asheville Motor Speedway

Join us at the Carrier Park Picnic Shelter where we BCSC and Dr. Dan Pierce will spend the evening sharing memories and celebrating the New Asheville Motor Speedway on the 25 anniversary of the track's final race. Click here for more details.
