Matthew Perry, the acclaimed actor known for his role as Chandler Bing in the popular TV show "Friends," has passed away at the age of 54.

Perry's portrayal of the caustic yet endearing character made him one of the most recognizable and memorable figures in television history.

"Matthew was an incredibly gifted actor and an indelible part of the Warner Bros. Television Group family," the company said in a statement. "The impact of his comedic genius was felt around the world, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of so many. This is a heartbreaking day, and we send our love to his family, his loved ones, and all of his devoted fans."

The specific reason for his death has not been established, but various media sources state that he passed away at his residence.

“The best way that I can describe it is after the show was over, at a party or any, any kind of social gathering, if one of us bumped into each other that was it. That was the end of the night,”  Perry said during the Friends reunion show. “You just sat with the person all night long. That was it. You apologize to the people you were with, but they had to understand — you had met somebody special to you and you want to talk to that person for the rest of their night. And that’s the way it worked. It’s certainly the way it works with all of us, It’s just the way it is.”
