Code Purple Activated for March 24
Code Purple is a coordinated effort among Asheville and Buncombe County shelters and other organizations to provide emergency overflow shelter to people experiencing homelessness during extremely cold weather (at or below 32 degrees, including wind chill, or 33-40 degrees with precipitation). During Code Purple, participating shelters will provide more beds with fewer requirements than their typical programming. Code Purple sites will also work with participants to refer them to ongoing shelter and housing options.
As a way to help those passing by know that a Code Purple has been activated, the lights inside the Register of Deeds office at 205 College St. will shine purple on those nights.

Join us in congratulating Firefighter Tony Terenzio for completing the Cleveland County Fire
Join us in congratulating Firefighter Tony Terenzio for completing the Cleveland County Fire Academy, in Shelby, NC, and earning the title of North Carolina State Certified Firefighter!
Firefighter Terenzio dedicated 10 full time weeks to physical fitness, fire suppression, team building, and learning all the skills necessary in becoming a firefighter.
Tony was also acknowledged by his class and given the Brotherhood Award for his outstanding conduct and teamwork skills.
But, as with all great accomplishments in life, he couldnโt do it alone. Not without the love and support of his wife and daughter, who moved to Shelby with Tony for those grueling 10 weeks.
Thatโs dedication to the fire service, folks.
Weโre so grateful for their commitment and sacrifice and could not be more thrilled to have them back in Banner Elk.
Firefighter Terenzio is back to action and ready to use his newly earned skills for the better of his community.
Thank you and congratulations, Tony!...

Dog was Stolen, Found. Suspect Arrested
Watauga Sheriff's Office:
Thanks to the clever investigating of Detectives Terry Julian, Will Watson, and Matt Rollins, the suspect's vehicle was encountered late yesterday afternoon on River Street and the driver was arrested by Appstate Police for larceny of a dog as well as concealing a firearm without a permit. After the dog was stolen on Monday, it was taken to Edgewood Drive in Southwest Lenoir where the suspect said it ran away. Now efforts are being made to locate the dog in Caldwell County. The suspect's vehicle was stopped only three hours after the identifying photos of the vehicle were submitted. This was all made possible with the joint effort of WCSO, Town of Boone Police Department and Appalachian State University Police Department.
Let this be a deterrent to anyone thinking of stealing a pet in Watauga County. We take this seriously and we will find you....
