Update on the Patton Sidewalk Project 🚧
The City's Streets Division has made strides by reinstalling the concrete sidewalk in front of the First Citizens Bank. City staff have encountered some challenges in sourcing trees for planting at this time of year and will not be able to obtain trees as we are leaving the optimal planting season. Don’t worry, City staff will be planting a mix of ginkgos, black gum trees, and little leaf lindens in the fall, prioritizing species that thrive in our local climate and urban areas. By changing the planting schedule it ensures the trees have the best chance to flourish and enhance our community for years to come. Your patience and support are greatly appreciated as we work to enhance the Patton Avenue area. As a reminder businesses will remain open through construction....

"Jackson County Public Schools will conduct a safety drill at some schools during the week of April 15th. This is a proactive measure to ensure that we are prepared for an emergency that involves an active shooter. Our goal is to practice safety procedures we have in place. This drill will not expose students to active shooter scenarios other than the lockdown procedures they practice twice per year. The drill is primarily to allow JCPS staff and local emergency services to practice how they respond to these events. It will last between 30 and 60 minutes. This drill has been planned and coordinated with Roland Hamrick from Specialized Consulting Services, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jackson County Emergency Services, Fire Departments and the Sylva Police Department."
