NC State Park Fundraiser: Dare to Care 2024 Year of the Bear
Eno River Association
🐻 In 2024, North Carolina State Parks is putting one of its most majestic inhabitants in the spotlight — the bear! North Carolina boasts a diverse range of wildlife, and among its residents are the black bears, found in various regions of the United States.
🌈 Despite their name, black bears can exhibit a range of colors, from black to cinnamon, blond, and even shades of blue-gray. These highly adaptable creatures inhabit diverse ecosystems, including forests, mountains, and swamps. Known for their keen sense of smell, black bears are omnivores with a diet that includes berries, nuts, insects, and occasionally small mammals. They play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance by dispersing seeds and regulating insect populations. Black bears are generally shy and elusive, preferring to avoid human contact. Understanding their behaviors and habitats is vital for fostering responsible coexistence, ensuring the well-being of both humans and these magnificent creatures in the wild.
📆 With the Year of the Bear, North Carolina State Parks aims to promote awareness of these incredible creatures. Visitors are invited to participate in responsible outdoor living. By following the Six Outdoor BearWise Basics, individuals can enjoy the beauty of the state's parks while ensuring the safety and well-being of both humans and the majestic black bears that call North Carolina home. For more information on black bears, check out Bearwise.org
🐾 Note: While black bears were historically found in all forested regions of North Carolina, populations saw dramatic declines following the arrival of early European settlers. Although black bears were considered extirpated (extinct in a specific region) in the Piedmont by the mid-1900s, their range has expanded in more recent years. Bear sightings in the Triangle are uncommon, and bears seen in the area are typically transient. Nonetheless, it is not impossible that you may spot one, or evidence of their presence, when out and about along the Eno!

Misfit Mountain Rescue: Meet Noodle Available for Adoption
Misfit Mountain
·
✨Welcome Noodle!✨
Noodle is a six-year-old, neutered, American miniature pig, he is full-grown, weighs approximately 100 pounds, is current on his vaccinations, and is well-socialized.
He is used to being indoors and is litterbox trained. His favorite activities include napping, snuggling, having plenty of outside time to be a pig, and eating. Of all these, eating is his favorite, and there is little he won't do for a banana chip, cheerio, or some peanut butter. Noodle is deaf but responds well to hand signals. Like all pigs, he is very intelligent and loving and has very big feelings. He loves his routine and will need patience as he adjusts to his new life. 🤎
If you’re interested in adopting Noodle, please reach out directly
