*Devil's Tramping Ground
Stories about the ring are well known in local communities. These include the disappearance of objects left within the ring overnight, dogs yipping and howling, not wanting to go near it, and strange events occurring to those brave enough to spend the night within its boundaries. It has been alleged that nothing has grown within the 40 foot ring for a hundred years. Legend says that this is the very place the devil himself can rise from the depths of fiery hell, and come to earth. It's at this place that the devil is supposed to walk in circles on certain nights and bring his evil into this world.
Chatham natives say... that the Devil goes there to walk in circles as he thinks up new means of causing trouble for humanity. There, sometimes during the dark of night, the Majesty of the Underworld of Evil silently tramps around that bare circle-- thinking, plotting, and planning against good, and in behalf of wrong. I have heard that boy scouts spent the night there and woke up with their tents a few miles away. There were also some guys who tried to stay up the whole night there. 2 men attempted to stay up all night, but were lulled to sleep by a soft voice.
Legend says that people who stay the whole night in the circle are never sane again. Many people have reported seeing strange shadow like figures in the tree line watching them. There have also been reports of satanic rituals taking place in the circle. People hear a soothing voice and melody to make them fall asleep, then wake up a few miles away from the circle. Calling All Mountain Bikers!
*Mountain bikers in DuPont State Forest are accustomed to the land's unusual offerings, from plunging torrents of water around every turn, to a bald ridge of rare eastern slickrock. But riders on the Airstrip Trail may be surprised to come across a bizarre and unexpected feature within the 10,000 acre tract of wilderness: an abandoned and overgrown runway.
Although the airstrip, a relic from the days when the land was owned by the DuPont Chemical Company, is slowly being reclaimed by grass and shrubs around the edges, the enormous slab of concrete, still brightly painted with directionals, certainly makes for a startling and somewhat eerie site.

The World War II battleship is believed to be haunted by a blond sailor who shows up in passageways and another sailor who peeks out from portholes. Witnesses say hatch doors slam, cold spots are felt and footsteps are heard.
