MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A day after bringing havoc to the Rocky Mountains, a powerful winter storm rolled across the Midwest on Wednesday, threatening to scramble Thanksgiving plans for millions of people during one of the busiest travel weeks of the year.

Record throngs of travelers are expected to jam into airports over the Thanksgiving break and airlines are adding hundreds of flights a day in response.

VENICE, Italy (AP) — Exceptionally high tidal waters surged through Venice again on Friday, prompting the mayor to close St. Mark’s Square and call for more donations for repairs just three days after the Italian lagoon city suffered its worst flooding in 50 years.

One of the most haunted places in North Carolina is Lydia’s Bridge in Greensboro. Local legend states that a young woman named Lydia crashed on the bridge on her way home from a dance with her date.

Because of the range of elevations in and around Asheville, we are lucky to have an extended color season. You can experience fall color from September through mid-November. Our fall foliage experts tell us that when Western North Carolina has a wet summer, we’ll have an extended fall color season this year.
