Asheville -- September 4, 2023: A cyclist was killed by a vehicle on Hendersonville Road Sunday afternoon.

Asheville Police Department patrol officers are investigating.


APD Patrol Officers responded to a bike hit-and-run near Hendersonville Road's 2200 block at 1:12 p.m. on Sept. 3. According to the preliminary investigation, a blue automobile heading northbound on Hendersonville Road attempted to pass a bike in the turn lane, causing a head-on collision.

The driver escaped before police arrived. The rider died shortly after Buncombe County EMS took them to Mission Hospital. After notifying the next of kin, more information will be disclosed. The driver and vehicle were found later that night. Asheville Police will investigate and communicate with the Buncombe County District Attorney's Office about charges.
