Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site will offer free, special programs on the weekend of Oct. 14 and 15, to celebrate the park’s 55th anniversary. On October 14 and 15, tours of the Sandburg Home will be free. On October 15, The Gathering Dark will present the music program, “Sandburg’s Songbag” at the amphitheater. The park was authorized on October 17, 1968.

“Sandburg’s Songbag” will be presented on Sunday, October 15, from 3–5 p.m., at the park amphitheater. The free program, sponsored by the Friends of Carl Sandburg at Connemara, explores Sandburg’s musical legacy through stories, songs, and poems. The program is presented by The Gathering Dark, a songwriting duo which includes Josh Dunkin, who hails from Tennessee by way of Chicago, and Steven DuRose, who hails from Ohio by way of Los Angeles. A free shuttle will be available throughout the program to assist visitors from the main parking lot on Little River Road.

On the weekend of October 14 and 15, free tours of the Sandburg Home will be offered. Tour tickets will only be available in person on a first come, first served basis on the day of the tour, from the visitor center/park store located on the ground floor of the Sandburg Home. The visitor center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free tours will be available at 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. Please allow 30 minutes to walk or shuttle from the parking lots to the Sandburg Home.
A free park shuttle runs from the main parking lot on Little River Road to the farm area, Sandburg Home, and grounds. The shuttle operates on the days and times the Park Store/Visitor Center and Sandburg Home are open: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Access to the goat farm is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

More information at link below!
Visitors with mobility concerns are strongly urged to visit when the shuttle is running. For limited accessibility options on other days, visit Parking - Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site.
The Sandburg Home and Park Store/Visitor Center are open Thursdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. These are also the only days that America the Beautiful and other nationwide park passes are sold in the visitor center. Otherwise, visit Recreational Passes | USGS Store
For Sandburg Home tour ticket reservations outside of the anniversary weekend, visit recreation.gov, because day-of-visit, last minute tickets are rarely available.
Access to grounds, trails, and the farm is free. Leashed pets are allowed on trails and grounds. The park is open daily from sunrise to sunset, except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. For park updates and all parking options visit www.nps.gov/carl or follow the park on Facebook.
