Asheville Community Through Kudzu Project
Asheville -- January 10, 2024: City of Asheville Government Community News:
“Community Through Kudzu” is a City Neighborhood Matching Grant project that began as a collaboration between Montford Neighborhood Association, Urban Forest Alliance, and Kudzu Culture, and grew into much more!
Montford Neighborhood Association contracted with Raven Invasive Plant Management to remove invasive plants along the Reed Creek Greenway over the course of 2023, holding volunteer events and work days throughout the year.
Community partnership is at the heart of this project. In addition to others mentioned above, MNA worked with UNCA, Homeward Bound, Asheville Preservation Arborists, Asheville Greenworks, Greek Orthodox Church, and Asheville Botanical Gardens.
Community Through Kudzu project accomplishments:
20+ large bags of trash removed from Reed Creek Greenway
59+ volunteers attending 4 community events
200+ kudzu root crowns removed from Reed Creek Greenway
Invasive Species Awareness Week proclamation passed by City Council (pictured)
The Neighborhood Matching Grants Program helps Asheville’s neighborhood-based organizations fund various improvement projects by providing a dollar-for-dollar matching grant of up to $5,000. Learn more about the program and how to apply
