Shooting in Waynesville: Father Fatally Shot by Son
Haywood County -- August 26, 2024 -- A fatal shooting occurred in Waynesville on Saturday. Haywood County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting gunfire.
Upon arrival, they found Perry Bryson, 41, with life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Noah Andrew Bryson, 22, was immediately taken into custody without incident by the Haywood County Sheriff's Office. He has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with his father's death.
The Haywood County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the shooting. While details remain limited, authorities are working to understand the circumstances that led to the shootin. Investigators have not yet disclosed a motive, and they are currently exploring all possibilities, including any prior history of domestic issues within the family.
Law enforcement officials are also looking into the weapon used in the shooting and are interviewing potential witnesses and neighbors to piece together the events leading up to the incident. They have urged anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
Noah Andrew Bryson is currently being held without bond in the Haywood County Detention Center. He is expected to make his first court appearance early next week, where he will face the formal charges against him. Given the severity of the charges, the legal process is expected to be closely followed by the community.
First-degree murder is one of the most serious charges under North Carolina law, carrying the potential for life imprisonment without the possibility of parole or the death penalty if convicted.
