Man Sentenced for Attempted Murder in Rutherford County

Rutherford County -- August 31, 2023, Rutherford County Superior Court sentenced Kevin Clifford Marks to 198–250 earlier this month.

Marks will serve his time at the Carolina Department of Adult Correction. Senior Resident Superior Court 

He pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder.

Marks was charged with Attempted First Degree Murder after firing a 12 gauge shotgun at Rutherford County Sheriff's Office deputies on August 4 and 5. Rutherford County Sheriff's Office Captain Stephen Ellis was hit directly and injured by 12 gauge shotgun bullets. Shrapnel injured Sheriff's Deputies, Billy Scoggins and Warren Sprouse.

The court heard the case from Assistant District Attorney Kent Brown.
