Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision In West Asheville

Asheville --  Press Release: Asheville Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred Tuesday afternoon in west Asheville, resulting in the death of a motorcyclist.

APD Patrol Officers responded to the scene of a collision near the 320 block of New Leicester Highway around 2:24 p.m. on February 1st.

The preliminary investigation indicates a 2008 Honda VT750C Shadow motorcycle, operated by Norman Lawrence Murray (12/27/1955), was traveling south on New Leicester Highway when a 2014 Toyota Scion attempted to turn left from New Leicester Highway into a parking lot, colliding with the motorcycle. Murray was transported to Mission Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on April 2nd; next of kin has been notified.

The investigation into this collision is active and ongoing. Upon completion of the investigation, the Asheville Police Department will consult with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s office.
