"There's always been an underground scene of music, with a lot of great musicians, but only in the past 15 or 20 years has it risen to the level that it is now," says Haynes, the former Allman Brothers Band guitarist and unofficial mayor of the town nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains on the Tennessee-North Carolina border.
